Marbella continues to strengthen its reputation as a premier tourist destination, based on May occupancy data showing a 76.4% rate and record-breaking hotel profitability. According to Laura de Arce, the sector's general director, key indicators from the INE reveal unprecedented prices and revenue per room, with domestic tourism reaching its highest levels in 14 years.
De Arce highlighted that May is traditionally a vital month for high season, and current figures demonstrate Marbella's ongoing appeal even amid global market volatility. The city remains attractive, especially to domestic visitors, with a total of 75,941 travellers, including 57,759 from abroad, and 263,032 overnight stays.
Hotel profitability metrics reached new heights, with the average room rate at €234.95 and revenue per available room (RevPAR) at €178.20—up 10.6% and 8.7% from May 2014, respectively. This growth is attributed to strategic segmentation targeting more affluent tourists, hotel renovations, international events, and Marbella’s appealing climate, culture, leisure, gastronomy, nature, and wellness offerings.
Both the City Council and tourism bodies agree that these indicators confirm Marbella's position as a highly competitive luxury destination in the Mediterranean.
