Tesla is making silent waves in Marbella

El Corte Ingles

It's official - Tesla has finally made it to our wonderful slice of paradise, the Costa del Sol. Like popping to your local department store to pick up a last minute birthday present, you can now do the same for a Tesla in El Corte Inglés in Puerto Banús - no biggie. This news comes after El Corte Inglés revealed that it is now working with Tesla as part of their Tesla on Tour campaign to introduce the cars into the European market to make them more directly available.

In pursuit of kicking off their plan to make their way into the European market, Tesla began building charging points across Spain before making the cars directly available to the general public through El Corte Inglés. In a select sample of the super department stores across Spain, the famous automobile company Tesla will be deploying ‘Destination Charging’ parking spaces, so that users can leave their car charging whilst doing their shopping or having a bite to eat in one of the many gastrobars in El Corte Inglés.

El Corte Inglés in Puerto Banús is one of the busiest department stores in the chain during the summer months, with a whopping average of 50,000 people visiting it a day during the summer months, so it comes as no surprise that Tesla wants a slice of the action!

As of this moment, Tesla charging points only exist in three of the El Corte Inglés department stores: in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao. However, phase two of Teslas plan to make the cars viable in Spain to both nationals and wealthy tourists has begun. Tesla has deployed 122 charging points exclusively for Tesla users across Spain, and with El Corte Inglés being the only place for a person to directly purchase the electronic cars until further notice, the alliance between the two companies looks extremely promising for the summer months.

The models on show and for sale in El Corte Inglés in Puerto Banús are the Tesla Model X and the Tesla Model S, which compete respectively with the Porsche Panamera, Porsche Cayenne and the Jaguar F-Pace. El Corte Inglés is clearly lucky to have been approached by Tesla to showcase these models in their foyer, and the increase in numbers through their doors from people wanted to look on in awe at the futuristic, electric cars must also be very welcomed.

Marbella, and Puerto Banús especially, has for a long time been home to fast and luxurious cars, and at My Guide Marbella we are definitely excited to start seeing a new wave of electronic cars take to the streets. Our only concern is how people will hear these cars drive up behind them when they're walking through the Puerto Banús harbour!
