Il Museo del Gravure Spagnolo Contemporaneo è stato inaugurato il 28 novembre 1992, sulla base di una prima donazione composta da 1.350 opere grafiche di autori contemporanei spagnoli.

Sin dalla sua apertura, e grazie al desiderio espresso del suo fondatore, il Museo è stato un centro vivente di riflessione e azione sull'arte con la lettera maiuscola, ma anche soprattutto sull'arte contemporanea spagnola e fondamentalmente sul mondo dell'opera grafica originale: mostre, premi nazionali di incisione, laboratorio di incisione, conferenze, biblioteca specializzata, ecc.

Attualmente il museo conta circa quattromila opere realizzate con varie tecniche: incisione (acquaforte, punta secca, stencil ...), litografia, serigrafia, xilografia, tecniche additive, nonché stampa digitale. Alla collezione di stampe si aggiunge un importante fondo costituito dai cosiddetti libri d'artista.
