The Irish Midwife
ANTENATAL CLASSES
A course of classes usually runs over 4 consecutive weeks, in the early evening, on a midweek night, when women are around 30weeks pregnant. The number of couples/group is small and may plan on having their babies in different hospitals on the coast. Informative and informal best describes the ambience that has been appreciated by many couples to date.
Good quality course handouts and a Hypnotherapy CD are included. Information leaflets are available and there is a DVD & Book library which couples are welcome to borrow from. A Physiotherapist has a segment with each group on the subject of the pelvic floor whilst the men have a group meeting with the midwife.
POSTNATAL HOME VISITS
These can be arranged when new parents desire to have a midwife call and check on Mum and Baby. This is not a service that is provided by the health authorities in Spain when you have a baby in either the public or private system. Breastfeeding support is often critical in this period.
POSTNATAL SUPPORT
The Irish Midwife organises meetings in an informal setting where new mums and babies can meet and know there is a midwife available to answer any questions. This set-up encourages mutual support and long term breastfeeding advice. Follow the Irish Midwife on fb for confirmation of venue, dates and times.
