This museum has a particular focus on Andalusian works. It is also the type of collection that can be appreciated by all ages and both novices and experts of the art world.
The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga is housed in the Palacio de Villalón in the heart of the Moorish part of the city. The recent restoration of the palace is a fine example of the city's Renaissance architecture and a must see on any visitor that craves a little culture.
Just like the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza museum in Madrid, the Malaga museum contains a particularly impressive selection of works from famous Old Masters, Romantic Landscape painters and some of the finest 19th and 20th century artists such as Zurburán, Mariano Fortuny, Claude Lorraine, Manuel Barrón, Emilio Sanchez Perrier and Ramon Casas to name but a few.
The paintings are a very personal selection of the Baroness Thyssen and are known for their wide scope and rigorous quality which is a part of what makes the museum so unique and special.
Tickets are purchased at €6 for adults and €3.50 for concessions with children under 12 being free of charge. There is also a snack bar within the museum to top up your energy levels or take a quiet pause and reflection midway through your gallery visit.
The audio sets are also very useful and if this is the first time you have visited an art gallery of this stature, we would highly recommend that you make use of them to fully appreciate the story behind the art work that you are viewing.
