Tarifa

Tarifa is a small town in Cadiz about an hour and a half drive from Marbella and it has some of the best beaches in southern Spain. It is also the last stop in Spain before reaching Morocco, giving you a little insight as to what's to come.

Known as a playground for surfers, windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts because of its 10km of white sandy beaches, Tarifa is the southernmost point of Europe and enjoys fantastic views of Africa on clear days.

The waters of Tarifa are also the best places to find whales and dolphins as they swim between the Atlantic and Mediterranean.

The town of Tarifa has narrow cobbled streets and pretty flowers adorn most walls making a walk around the town a peaceful and enjoyable afternoon and there are many sights to see. The church of San Mateo dates back to the 16th century while the Arab castle of Guzman the Bueno was built in 960AD and is open to visitors who can see the Roman architecture.

Also worth a visit are the municipal museum and the Miramar Gardens where there is an impressive view of the shores of Morocco on a clear day.

The old part of Tarifa town has many little tapas bars for you to enjoy a tapa or two and a cerveza while the main street Batalla del Salado has all the surf shops and trendy clothes shops.

On the hills behind Tarifa is one of the largest wind farms in Europe and you can see all the wind turbines as you drive towards the town and beaches.

Tarifa has many types of accommodation for all budgets and tastes. If you want to be by the beach then one of the hotels located along the strip of the beach are all comfortable, affordable and friendly - many have bars, restaurants, chiringuitos and pools. However, there are also self-catering options and campsites for you to pitch your tents.

Simply Shuttles are a good travelling choice to go to Tarifa in a large group, which enables you to sit back and relax on your journey.
